Yes. All businesses who produce glass must arrange glass collections to comply with UK government regulations.
Glass can easily break during the collection and sorting process, which can contaminate other recyclable materials like paper and cardboard. Contaminated paper and cardboard are harder to recycle, reducing the overall quality of the recyclables.
Plastic sacks in your glass bin are classed as contamination. It is also a health and safety risk. Tipping glass is straightforward when it isn’t contaminated; it is dangerous for our staff to pick sacks out of broken glass due to the risk of injury from sharp glass shards.
Glass bottles and jars should be emptied of liquids, and while labels can remain, caps and lids should be removed. Glass with food residue is not acceptable.
Glass bottles and jars of any colour. Pyrex, ceramics, or crystal glass are not accepted because they require different processing and contaminate the recycling stream.
